MINDFULNESS COACHING

“The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice” R. Laing

The goal of Mindfulness Coaching is to improve people's capacity to respond creatively, productively, and skillfully to the challenges and opportunities they encounter.

Coaching for Executives

An executive's leadership effectiveness depends to a large extent on his/her self-awareness and self-regulation skills. Mindfulness Coaching for Executives takes into account the responsibilities and challenges that are inherent in leadership roles, and weaves those requirements into the coaching process.

Coaching for Groups

Group coaching sessions are usually designed to meet the specific needs of an organization or team. Group coaching sessions can enhance individual and group learning, strengthen interpersonal bonds, and develop a powerful sense of community.

To achieve this goal, Mindfulness Coaching focuses on developing greater self-awareness and self-regulation skills (SASRS). Self-awareness is the capacity to note what is going on in our body-mind at any given moment, while self-regulation is the capacity to modulate certain key internal (physiological, cognitive) and external (behavioral, communicational) processes. The foundation of these skills is the practice of mindfulness.

By mastering these SASRS, you will be able to: relax your body, reduce stress and physical pain, stop counterproductive thoughts and cultivate positive ones, improve concentration, assess reality more objectively and accurately, modulate unproductive emotional responses and generate positive emotional states, end unwanted behaviors, enhance productivity and performance, stimulate creativity, improve interpersonal communication, reduce conflicts, and act purposefully in ways that propitiate favorable outcomes for yourself and others.

HOW DOES THE COACHING PROCESS WORK

Mindfulness Coaching is highly individualized, but it always includes the following elements:

  • Clarifying the issues to be addressed with the person requesting the coaching (if not the client) and the client
  • Understanding the context, history, and impact of the issues
  • Developing plans with specific goals and timetables
  • Deciding what information will and will not be shared (if the person who requested the coaching is not the client)
  • Scheduling the coaching sessions (anywhere from twice a week to as needed) over a defined period
  • Coaching, which focuses on learning new skills, changing attitudes and behaviors, addressing barriers to change, and closing effectiveness gaps
  • Soliciting feedback about the client's progress
  • If the person who requested the coaching is not the client, the final step is reconnecting the client with his or her own manager at the end of the coaching period.

The Mindfulness Coach coach remains an ongoing resource, available by phone or skype to speak with the client and the person requesting the coaching (if not the client) throughout the coaching period.
